Cleansing Ritual
I'm not sure exactly how else to describe it. It seems that every summer I need to have a little talk with myself about the importance of budgeting, saving, and allocating our personal finances. Today is that day for me. Three years ago we had one credit card, and we used it rarely. Today I realized that have collected a bunch of those "store cards" You know, the ones that if you apply for the card you get a cool 10 percent off you purchase. Tempting little buggers that they are I have decided to do away with them. I got out the big scissors (every house has some) and snipped away at the ability to buy it now and pay it later.
Don't get me wrong here. I don't think that credit cards are evil incarnate. Many people use them and have no problems with keeping them paid off. What a credit card allows me to do is to almost always spend so much more than I should, or would, had I used my debit card.
To sum up, credit cards sliced, checking register balanced (sadly, it has been too long), and time to dig up the crusty, dusty budget envelopes from last summer.
Dave Ramsey would be so proud. I am less than thrilled.

Way to go Michelle! I've been falling for those wonderful deals lately as well. I may have to follow your lead on becoming more financially responsible. Bah humbug!!
Live like no one else, so later you can live like no one else.
come on, spend it now, worry about paying later
Ok Average American, I likes the sound of your comment :) mmmmmm....impulse buys
buy now pay later, it is the American way!!!!!
Don't worry, I still have one Visa, I'm taking Baby Steps here. :)
I use the envelope system. I keep my mastercard in one, my visa in another, and my American express in a third.
That's some envelope system you got there, I should get you one of my best sellers
I use all my credit cards and then just file bankruptcy later
Why do you think Rob drives an 1988 truck? But, um is it bad when not all the seat belts work?
I find it helpful to have my credit card number memorized so I can buy stuff online without looking in my wallet! Is that bad?
I find it confusing when Michelle talks to herself, or maybe its a different Michelle, or maybe its not, I don't know, will the real Michelle please stand up?
Here's an idea, keep charging and send the statement to the other Michelle or the same Michelle, if that doesn't work keep them cut up.
Um, me, being the other Michelle protests the idea of having the 1st Michelle's credit card bills being sent to me. I've been shopping with her...
Don't forget that just cutting them up doesn't take care of them for good. You must call the Credit Company and close the account. Because when your card expires they will send you a new one. (Or you may want them back by that time.)
I keep my in a drawer, in an old wallet, just in case we get in a pinch and don't have the cash in the bank.
How can one memorize a credit card number, I can't even remember my pin number.
We can't even use the ATM because neither Rob or I have any idea what our pin number is.
Stacey it sounds like to me that you are just being practical knowing your number for those important internet buys.
I'm Slim shady, yes I'm the real Shady all the other Slim Shadys are just imitatin' so won't the real Slim Shady please stand up, please stand up?
Eminem rules.
thats a pretty good song
