The moment I knew I was no longer young.

and basically un-cool for that matter.

On a Sunday night I was driving my mini-van
in the parking lot at Target.
I was rockin' out to a hit song
from 1976,
windows rolled all the way down.
A young-ish looking teenager looked at me.
She looked annoyed.
She looked at me like I was some kind of repulsive adult.

Man!

When did you (those of you that are old) realize you were not hip as you thought?

There are waaay too many moments..especially when you have a 13 and 11 yr. old who readily reprimand you for "uncoolness"...

The lingo they use now is so odd to me...When the kids told me some boys at school were "Emo"..What is that, I said, thinking it might be contagious..

Apparently it means the "emotional" kids or the "gothic kids"....

I find that my cool-ness level changes depending on who I'm hanging out with. I'm at the bottom end of the scale when I'm with my 15 year old and her friends. However with my 11 year old and his friends, I still rank right up there. . .Does that say something about my cool-ness or my maturity level?

Anytime I remember that I am driving a mini-van, or last week when I was telling someone about the 80's party and they asked what is Miami Vice?

What do you mean by that, Chelle?

I was in Wal-Mart when a young, hip college girl said "Ma'am?". She then proceeded to ask me a question regarding ingredients for a recipe.

oh Anonymous, that stinks. I too, have been "Maam'd" a few times. Most recently yesterday at Starbucks.

1st time I got "maam'd" by a young, attractive boy in a store. Devastating, just devastating.

I'm going to guess that the song was "More Than A Feeling," or if not that, at least one of the MANY HITS off of Boston's BLOCKBUSTER SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM.
